"THE PLAN" The overall plan for the car is to build a "new" car that happens to be wrapped in the 1967 Pontiac GTO skin. Modern running gear with a "low maintenance" fuel injected 502, automatic tranny, and Ford nine inch rear end. The suspension will be updated with Hotchkis suspension, but we'll keep it simple; no air bags or hydraulics. The interior will have a very "stock" appeal to it. I want the new owner to remember that he's in a '67 GTO. So we'll retain the stock pattern in the upholstery, the wood grain on the dash & console, but make it all new; power windows, CD player, power bucket seats, A/C, etc.. The exterior of the car will stay pretty stock as well. We might shave the door handles and trunk lock, just to smooth it out a little, but will retain all the big stainless steel rockers and chrome trim that makes a '67 GTO a '67 GTO. The two tone paint will be done in easy to find factory colors. After all, this is going to be a daily driver and accidents will happen. You want to be able to match the paint easily. When the car is completed, it goes to auction.

THE DRIVETRAIN: Ram Jet 502 Chevy Big Block, part no. 12499121. This fuel injected big block features four bolt mains, forged crank and rods, a hydraulic roller cam with .544 lift and .234 duration, aluminum oval port heads, 9.6 to 1 compression. Which all adds up to 502 horsepower at 5100 RPM!! On pump gas (92 octane)!! and comes with a one year, 12,000 mile warranty. Then, just for a little more punch were going to bolt on a Vortex blower for an additional 150 horsepower! That's 650+ horsepower on pump gas. We'll have to order the Deluxe Serpentine Accessory Belt Drive System (part no. 12498733) to go with the motor. To bolt to the back of the motor we'll be using the 4L85-E Four Speed Automatic (part no. 19156257) to transfer the power to a Currie Enterprises Ford 9 inch with 3:92 gears. THE INTERIOR: Most of the interior will be purchased straight out of the Year One catalog. It's going to be the most cost affective way of doing a whole new interior. The only big change to the interior will be power bucket seats, power windows, and an updated dash board with new gauges, environmental controls, and a new stereo. BODY: Shaved door handles, and a filled trunk lid lock will be the only changes to the body. Most of the body parts will come from OPG or Year one.

"THE OTHER PART OF THE PLAN" The other part of the plan is to promote our "project car". Besides it's own web site that we will update on a regular basis, we'll also be shooting pictures and writing how-to articles for magazines. Most magazines won't take "project car" articles until the "project" is completed. Because let's face it, a lot of project cars out there fail and never see completion. So we will be submitting articles on "Suspension Installation", "Body Work Prep", etc.. That way the car will see press in magazines before it goes to auction. Although our "teenage goat" already has a lot of history behind it, the more history or publicity the car has, the better. The extra revenue from the how-to articles will be put back into the car so that it can be completed sooner. Let's face it, it's going to take $40 to $50,000.00 to complete this car, and no, I don't have that kind of money. The big ticket items like the motor and tranny will have to be financed. All the loans will be paid off as soon as the car is sold, otherwise the interest in the loans will eat-up any profit made at auction. It's going to be a tight squeeze to make any money on this car, it's about as risky as "flipping" a house these days. But I do have a few aces in my hand; 1) the car is rare, you don't see too many '67 GTOs around, 2) I can do 80% of the work myself, 3) I have friends and family who are "gear heads" like me who can help. So book mark our home page and check back in once in awhile and see how our project car goes...
